Tips and Advice
Whether it's your first heating oil delivery or you've ordered plent of times before, it's useful to know what to expect.
From choosing the right tanker and preparing your property to delivery times, failed deliveries and cancellations, here are the answers to some of the questions customers ask us most.
The right tanker usually depends on access to your property rather than how much oil you've ordered.
A standard tanker is suitable for many homes, but narrow lanes, tight gateways, low bridges or limited turning spaces may mean a smaller tanker is needed.
When ordering, let us know any access restrictions so the supplier has the right information before setting off.
Not sure what to look for? Consider narrow roads, weight restrictions, parked vehicles, tight driveways and how close a tanker can safely get to your tank.

When you get a quote from us, your delivery options will be displayed alongside our quoted PPL price. These may include 10-working-day, 5-day, 3-day, and 2-day delivery, with emergency next-working-day delivery in some circumstances.
The delivery date shown is an 'on or before' date, meaning this is the latest date your heating oil is due to arrive, and it may be delivered sooner. You'll choose a delivery option rather than a specific arrival time. Tankers usually make several stops on the same route, so we don't typically receive an exact delivery time from the supplier.
Good to know: As your delivery approaches, check your BoilerJuice account for the latest information available about your order.
Usually, no. If the driver can safely access your property, tank and fill point, your delivery may be completed without you being there.
Beforehand, unlock any gates or tank locks, move anything blocking access and secure pets where necessary.
It's also worth adding clear delivery instructions to your order, particularly if your property or tank is difficult to find.
Sometimes a driver may reach a property but be unable to safely complete the delivery. This could be due to restricted access, a problem with the tank or fill point, or another issue that prevents a safe delivery.
You can help avoid a failed delivery by making sure the tanker has clear access to your property, your tank and fill point are easy to reach, and any gates or tank locks are unlocked before the driver arrives. It's also important to let us know about any access restrictions when placing your order.
If a delivery can't be completed, the reason will be reviewed, and you'll be given information about what happens next.
Receiving slightly less oil than you ordered doesn't necessarily mean there's been a problem.
Your tank may simply have had less space than expected. For example, if you order 1,000 litres but your tank only has room for 900 litres, the driver won't overfill it.
Before placing your order, make sure there's enough room in your tank for the amount of heating oil you're requesting. If significantly less oil can be delivered than ordered, you may be charged an under-delivery fee.
The tanker records how much oil has been delivered so your order can be adjusted accordingly where applicable.
A few simple checks beforehand can help avoid problems on delivery day:
This gives the driver the best chance of completing your delivery without any problems.
